Regent Hotels & Resorts Makes its Caribbean Debut, Taking Over the Palms Turks and Caicos

Ft. Lauderdale | March 08, 2007

On April 2, 2007, Regent Hotels & Resorts ( makes its Caribbean debut with The Regent Palms Turks and Caicos, a 72-suite luxury resort enclave on Grace Bay Beach.

In assuming management of The Palms in September 2006, Regent Hotels & Resorts made a commitment to raise the resort's level of luxury. Its first area of focus was to guarantee the highest service by increasing the staff by 20 percent, offering a higher staff-to-guest ratio.

Every aspect of the resort's service, products and activities has been enhanced from new concierge services and spa renovations to higher quality bed linens and new culinary creations.

"The marriage of The Palms, a previously independent resort, and Regent is 'a perfect fit,'" said Mark Conroy, president of Regent. "Virtually everything about this resort - from its unparalleled location and dramatic architecture to its extraordinary spa - is the embodiment of Regent. It has all the qualities we look for in a luxury property."

"What we've done is taken a great resort and found ways to make it even better," said General Manager Diderik Van Regemorter, who is leading the reflagging project. "Above all, Regent is known for a sincere and unwavering dedication to service and a commitment to delivering an experience and product of the very highest quality."Increasing the staff by 70 employees was key to establishing The Regent Experience SM, a brand promise to guests of immersion in local culture, luxury for all the senses, attention to detail and highly personalized and anticipatory service.

A sampling of Regent-led enhancements include:

  • A significantly enriched spa debuts this spring with the addition of six new treatment rooms, bringing the total to 17. Recognizing men's growing interest in spas, the resort has introduced a male-oriented treatment room to make them feel more relaxed and welcomed. The room features a masculine design with rich colors and dark woods. Treatments range from facials and sports massages to old-fashioned hot-towel shaves with a straightedge razor. The Spa at The Regent Palms will also showcase two of the most highly acclaimed skincare names in beauty: Somme Institute and Sonya Dakar, marking a 'first' for the Caribbean for both highly coveted brands, which were previously unavailable in spas outside of the U.S. The Spa also offers a signature 90-minute Zareeba treatment, an indigenous island herbal steam cleansing and detoxification ritual created especially for the resort by a Caribbean herbalist.

  • Culinary innovations that underscore Regent's commitment to immersing guests in local culture and cuisine, including the addition of the island's only gourmet barbecue kitchen on the beach. To debut in September, it will supplement the resort's signature restaurant, Parallel23, to offer a more relaxed, Caribbean-style beachside venue for nightly moonlit, island-inspired barbecues.

  • Training in delivering a Regent-caliber experience is a multi-faceted initiative that includes training staff to deliver The Regent Experience SM through personalized new programs such as the Concierge-Customized Itinerary, which allows guests to provide a list of their interests and have the chief concierge create a customized itinerary including the top activities with the island's best experts.

The Regent Palms Turks and Caicos is situated in one of the world's most stunning environments, featuring a serene English Estate setting that overlooks the turquoise waters of pristine Grace Bay Beach. The resort's 72 luxury guest rooms and one-, two- and three-bedroom suites are housed in five coral stone buildings that form a semicircle around a multi-million-dollar serpentine infinity pool with sun pods - circular, cushioned lounges covered in colorful pillows for deluxe comfort. Accommodations feature personalized in-room amenities, Egyptian cotton linens, vaulted ceilings and custom-made mahogany furnishings. Suites also include kitchens, equipped with Viking appliances and expansive oceanview terraces. The 15,000-square-foot spa is designed by Angel Stewart of Golden Door fame and is renowned for its signature "Mother of Pearl" scrub. Executive Chef Martin Davies - who most recently worked at New York's SoHo House and China Grill - oversees the upscale Parallel23, featuring pan-tropical cuisine, and Plunge restaurant, which offers a more relaxed setting with its swim-up bar and in-water tables. On the beachfront, guests enjoy the use of Hobie Cats®, snorkel equipment, kayaks, windsurf boards and floats.

The Regent Palms Turks and Caicos joins Regent's growing portfolio of new and in-development properties around the world. The company's well-defined growth plan in the U.S. includes The Regent Bal Harbour, opening in 2007, and The Regent Boston at Battery Wharf, opening in 2008. Regent's existing portfolio encompasses eight properties in the cities of Beijing, Berlin, Kuala Lumpur, Miami Beach, Shanghai, Singapore, Taipei and Zagreb. Future developments in The Americas, Asia and Europe include properties in Papagayo, Costa Rica; Bangkok, Thailand and Dubrovnik, Croatia.
