Country Inns & Suites By Carlson supports National Literacy Month

Minneapolis | September 9, 2013

Country Inns & Suites By CarlsonSM a leader in the upper midscale hotel category, today launched the “Why I Love to Read” promotion, an opportunity for parents to share the reasons their children love books and reading. Together with Random House LLC and Country Inns & Suites, the first 75 entries will receive an age appropriate Random House book, plus a book donation (up to 75 books) will be made to First Book, a non-profit organization committed to helping children achieve more in school and in life.

“Educators have informed us that literacy is a key predictor of a child’s success,” said Aurora Toth, vice president, brand marketing, Midscale Brands, Americas. “Not only do we want to help ensure that children have the resources they need to excel, but we also seek to create ways to remind children that reading and writing can be entertaining, enjoyable, and rewarding.”

Parents are invited to pen up to a 400-word essay with their child answering the question, ‘Why I Love to Read’. One winner will be selected at random in each of the three following age categories: ages 7 - 9, ages 10 – 12, and ages 13 -16.

The winners’ essays will be published on the Country Inns & Suites’ Talk of the Country blog. Additionally, Country Inns & Suites will encourage continued reading by awarding 52 books to each of the three winners, one book to read each week for a year.

To enter the “Why I Love to Read” contest, visit whyilovetoread.com and follow the entry instructions.  All entries are due by 12 midnight EST on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. To mark the conclusion of National Literacy Month, the winners will be announced on September 30, 2013.

This contest is an extension of Country Inns & Suites’ ongoing commitment to literacy. The company’s support of this cause is also reflected in the brand-wide Read It & Return Lending LibrarySM, located in the lobby of each hotel in the U.S. and Canada. Through a recent partnership with Random House, guests are encouraged to borrow one of the 30,000 new books to read at their leisure. If they don’t finish it during their stay, they can return it on their next visit to any Country Inns & Suites location.

Country Inns & Suites offers a caring, consistent, and comfortable hospitality experience with complimentary amenities like high-speed Internet and hot breakfast. The distinctive product and service innovations, such as the Be Our Guest employee training program, have generated tremendous employee engagement scores and high guest satisfaction. Today, the brand has evolved to a more contemporary vision, yet still embodies the best parts of that founding philosophy, including the cookies.
